Mixon talks Texas offer

Joe Mixon said early Saturday he was hoping for an offer from Texas, that it would be huge in his recruitment and that he wanted to hear more from the coaching staff soon.
Later in the day, Mixon got word that the Longhorns offered and it's another major one for the four-star running back from Oakley (Calif.) Freedom who has absolutely dominated every camp or tournament he's played in this off-season.

"It's big because it's a big-time program that competes for the national championship every year and I can come in as a true freshman," Mixon said.
After establishing himself as one of the top prospects in the West and one of the best running backs nationally this spring, Mixon's recruitment has taken off. Another big offer from Oregon could be around the corner as well.
The Ducks are talking Mixon up in a big way and that's exciting to the 6-foot-2, 207-pound recruit.
"Oregon said they were waiting on my SAT scores to get sent into their office and my coach did that so they said they're coming back this week," Mixon said.
"They basically just said they need me a lot and that I'd be a big factor for them. They said I could change the game in their offense. It would be a big offer. That's Oregon."
Alabama continues to show a lot of interest and its coaches could visit with Mixon soon. LSU had been really involved in the last few weeks but the four-star running back said the Tigers have backed off recently.
In the last few weeks, Mixon narrowed his list of more than 40 offers to a top 16 and among those schools three really stand out - Oklahoma, Georgia and Wisconsin.
The Oakley Freedom standout said he's seriously considering official visits to those three programs but also wants to remain open because some other major offers could be on the way.
"Those are the main three that definitely stick out to me," Mixon said. "I still like a lot of schools but I'm just basically trying to stay focused with school first."
