Mixon headed to Midwest

Joe Mixon is getting closer to releasing his top 10 and this weekend can be very helpful in that process since the five-star running back is taking an unofficial visit to Wisconsin.
The Oakley (Calif.) Freedom standout said he's excited to see the campus and meet with the coaching staff and for a running back he has some unusual interests.

Mixon, who shined at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Chicago, is looking to get the ball in his hands often. But he's hoping to play in a balanced offensive attack where he gets handoffs and is also used in the passing game as well.
The five-star said he hopes to find that offensive mindset in Madison.
"They want me to come up there," Mixon said. "This is the weekend I was able to fit it in my schedule so I wanted to head up there.
"I have a lot of interest in them. Not only how they run the ball. I don't want to be there if they run the ball 300 times. That would be crazy. I want to balance it up. They have a good coaching staff so I want to go see and visit them before I make my final decision on my top 10.
"It's really important to get the ball but I'm looking for an offense that's balanced. I want to run the ball but I like an offense that throws the ball, too. I want to go up there and have a good time and see what they have to offer."
After the trip to Wisconsin, Mixon could be ready to release his top 10.
There are still a few open weeks before the Oakley Freedom prospect has to start preparing for his senior season - so another trip could be in the works - but Mixon isn't really sure of his schedule after he returns from the Midwest.
"I have three more weeks until school so I'm not sure about other visits," Mixon said. "I might be able to fit in one more trip but I have to ask my coach."
