Mitchell seeing stock soar

Junior linebacker Mike Mitchell earned first-team all-district honors this past season for Plano (Texas) West but he is now enrolled at Plano Prestonwood Christian, where he will play his senior year.
Even though the 6-foot-4, 215-pound defender has had a change of address, he has not been lost by college recruiters. In fact, the Winter Park, Fla. native recently picked up his first offers.

"I've gotten a couple offers so far," Mitchell said. "Texas pretty much offered. They say they're going to offer me at the junior day on the 25th of this month. I talked to coach (Darrell) Wyatt from there.
"UNLV has pretty much offered. Florida has too. Those three would probably be the main ones that have. I think Baylor is close to offering though."
Mitchell admits that he was not expecting all the newfound interest.
"It's all come pretty recently," he said. "It's sort of caught me off guard quite a bit. I was really surprised by Texas, actually. That was probably only like the second time I've talked to (Wyatt)."
Mitchell was recently able to make an unofficial visit to an in-state program.
"I went to the Baylor junior day a couple weeks ago," he said. "I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was really cool."
As far as favorites, the talented junior admits that a couple schools stand out at the moment.
"Baylor would be one of them," Mitchell said. "I really like Baylor. Texas would be up there too."
While Mitchell doesn't necessarily plan to make an early commitment he admits there is a chance it could happen should an offer be extended on his trip to Austin later this month.
"Possibly with Texas", he said.
