Mitchell ready for Army Bowl experience
Steven Mitchell has already had a taste of the U.S. Army

All-American Bowl experience since he was in San Antonio last year for the Army
combine and stayed for the game.
Seeing that extravaganza in person, getting to feel what it's like to be a part
of that all-star event was motivation through this off-season and into his
senior year.
Friday at Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany, Mitchell was presented with his
Army game jersey and the four-star wide receiver said he cannot wait to compete
with some of the other top-rated players in the 2013 class.
What started at the Army combine will end at the Army Bowl and Mitchell could
not be more excited.
"It's a great honor playing in this game," Mitchell said. "I actually went to
the game last year when I was at the combine and I knew I wanted to play in it
so it's a great honor to play in it.
"It was a great experience down there. All the guys are huge. I just have to
stay healthy and just prepare as much as I can for the game."
Mitchell, rated the No. 60 overall prospect in the Rivals100 by Rivals.com,
competed across the country in numerous all-star showcases this summer.
There was his trip to the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, and he was at
The Opening and he went non-stop in 7on7 tournaments in Southern California.
The Army Bowl will be a much different experience, though, since it's a
real-game setting with pads and helmets and hitting. It's in the Alamodome, a
setting which sets the game apart from anything else he's experienced through
his high school career.
It's something Mitchell is really looking forward to.
"During the entire summer I competed against the top players and now it's going
to be in pads so it should be fun," Mitchell said. "I've been looking forward to
this moment for a long time."
The Bishop Alemany star -- who has been compared to an undersized Percy Harvin
-- had also dreamed of playing at USC and once the Trojans offered
Mitchell didn't hesitate on making his commitment.
No other official visits are being planned and Mitchell said he's going to spend
some time in San Antonio recruiting for the Trojans.
Even though USC's recruiting class is pretty much wrapped up there are usually
some de-commitments or prospects who get swayed one way or another during their
weeklong experience in San Antonio.
Mitchell wants to make sure if anything happens more recruits are thinking about
the Trojans and don't flip to another school.
Other than competing at the Army Bowl, the Bishop Alemany prospect is making
sure USC's top-rated recruiting class stays intact, or possibly even gets a few
more top-rated players during his time in Texas.
"I think I'm still going to do some last-minute recruiting," Mitchell said. "I
know a lot of people will be committing on that day. I'll still be doing some
recruiting down there.
"I'm done pretty much with my visits. I'm solid in my commitment. I can't wait
to get there."
