Mitchell leads Westgate into playoffs

Wide receiver Jared Mitchell and New Iberia (La.) Westgate just came off an impressive 14-12 victory over Higgins. The 5-foot-11, 197-pounder has continued to play well running and passing the ball for the Tigers as he attempts to lead them through the playoffs.
"Our team has been playing great defense and we just have to manage to score a little more," he said. "In the playoffs, I've had two pretty good games. On the season, I'm over 1,400 yards passing with 11 touchdowns and over 1,100 yards rushing with 12 touchdowns. I've really come on late this season as I've been able to read defenses better."

On the recruiting front, Mitchell continues to look at four schools for officials.
"I'm still looking at LSU, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Ole Miss, but I haven't set anything up yet," he said. "I like that all those schools are nice and have good programs.
"I just picked up an offer from South Carolina in the last couple weeks. I've always liked the coaches there and from talking to them I have even more interest. I like coach Spurrier too, he's a good coach and I wouldn't mind playing for him."
The four-star prospect is still up in the air as to who he is looking at for a fifth official.
