Mitchell has a top five

It's scorching hot in Texas right now, but some areas were fortunate enough to get some precipitation which altered their football practice schedule. It can't keep Cody Mitchell and his Jasper (Texas) teammates off of the football field though. There are high expectations for this year's team.
"We just had a storm come through and it backed up our practice," Mitchell said. "Practices have been going great. We are projected to go four rounds deep in the playoffs. I think that you have to go five rounds to compete for the state title. I think that we can go all the way."

Mitchell could possibly play on both sides of the football this fall. He says that he will primarily play offense, but there are some situations where he could play defense. College coaches are recruiting Mitchell to play offense and that's where he wants to play at the next level.
"I am mainly playing tight end and H-Back. I will play some defensive end too. When we are getting pounded on too much in the run game or we are giving up too much in the passing game. I could see the field on defense in those situations.
"I like playing tight end the best," Mitchell said. "That's my favorite spot and that's where all of the colleges are recruiting me to play. I love to hit people and I love to catch the football. I get to do both of those things from the tight end position."
There is a double-digit offer total for Mitchell and he says that he has a top five at the moment. Some of the closer schools on his top five list may not host him for an official visit. There are a couple of schools that Mitchell says he would be more interested in taking official visits to because of how far they are away and some official visits could lead to an offer.
"I have 14 offers," Mitchell said. "My top five would be Missouri, SMU, Texas State, Illinois and Louisiana - Lafayette. I want to take my visits to the schools that are further away so some schools in my top 5 might not get an official visit.
"Florida actually wants me to officially visit so they can get a better look at me before they would think about offering me. UCF Is another school that I have been getting recruiting attention from and I would be interested in taking an official visit there too."
The most important thing to Mitchell when it comes to picking out a school is the academics he says. He wants to get a good degree. Additionally, he says that he is looking at the coaching staff and he also wants to be comfortable where he decides to go.
"The important things to me would be a place that had a good business program, good coaching staff and I want to feel at home there for the next four to five years," Mitchell said. "I come from a small town and our coaches are involved and are hands-on. I want that and I want to go to a bigger school."
