The Latest: It's not a regular occurrence for Iowa to reach into the state of Mississippi to offer prospects but three-star wide receiver Brandon Smith picked up an offer from the Hawkeyes last month. Now that he knows the school is interested, he's ready to head to campus to show the staff just how good he really is. Smith is planning on working out at the Hawkeyes camp as well as attending the "Hawkeye Tailgater" a recruiting event that will see some of the school's top targets visit campus. Rivals.com caught up with Smith to get his thoughts on what he's expecting to see while he's on campus.

In His Words: "They offered me the last day of the school year. They really liked my film. Since then I've been talking to Coach Bell a lot. He seems like a really good coach so I'm looking forward to getting on the field and working with him. With the camp and the cookout I'm going there to workout and see the campus and everything. I want to go somewhere that I'm comfortable so that's what I'm really looking for. I just want to get that feeling of what it's like to be on campus and be with the coaches."

Rivals Reaction: Smith has a host of offers but it's clear that Iowa is the school that has really caught his attention. Anytime a prospect from the Southeast makes a trip on his own dime to not only visit but workout, it's clear the interest is serious. Depending on how the trip goes, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Hawkeyes emerge as the team to beat in his recruitment.
