PHENIX CITY, Ala. — Schools have been rolling through Central High School this spring and one extended an offer to 2019 dual-threat quarterback Peter Parrish.
He did not see it coming. He wasn't even on campus when he got the news and he was at a loss for words.
"It was a surreal feeling," said Parrish. "It came so quick. It came out of nowhere. It was a total surprise when I got that call from coach DuBose (Peterson's head coach) while I was at a track meet. It was a shock.
"He told me Mississippi State wanted to offer me and I really didn't know what to say. All I could say was thank you. I felt so happy."
Peterson does not know a lot about those Bulldogs yet, but the offer definitely has him interested in what is going on over in Starkville (Miss.).
"You know, I have seen them play on T.V. and I know they are in the SEC, so I want to check them out. They have a good offense, they produce some top players and I want to talk more with coach [D.J.] Looney to learn more about them. Maybe I can get over there this summer."
The star athlete in Alabama is originally from south Florida. With that background, like many from that area, he grew up a big fan of the Miami Hurricanes. That is his dream school.
"If I ever got the Miami offer, it would be like a dream. It is my hometown, that is where I am from and I have a lot of love for Miami."
Florida and Florida State are other schools Peterson would love to hear from. Former Gator Tim Tebow is his favorite player.
He is currently hearing from Jacksonville State and Louisville. Peterson hopes to showcase his skill set to a lot of schools in the coming months.
"I am a good athlete, but my heart is at quarterback," said Peterson. "I have good speed, I can throw and I have good agility. I am going to go a lot of one-day camps at colleges, I will be out at some 7v7 camps too, so I hope to impress some coaches and add some offers this summer."
