Young, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound signal caller with 4.6 speed, has received
an official offer from the home state Southern Miss Eagles.
"I have five offers now," he said. "Auburn, Mississippi
State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Southern Miss. People ask me about my
favorites, but I really don't have it narrowed down that far yet. Basically, I'm
giving everyone a chance who's giving me a chance."
He camped at Mississippi State, Jackson State and Auburn
this summer. He's also receiving strong interest from Clemson, South Carolina and Memphis.
As a junior, Young threw for 1,160 yards and 17
touchdowns with only three interceptions. He also used his tremendous
athleticism to score five rushing touchdowns. He may project at two or three
different college positions, something he's keeping a close eye on when he talks
with recruiters.
"I really want to play quarterback," he said. "I like
Mississippi State, but I'm watching them close to see what their quarterback
situation looks like. One of their guys they have now may move to a different
position. I want to see what happens there."
Young began his youth football career as a receiver, but
formed a love affair with the quarterback position after making the switch prior
to high school.
"It's my position now," he said. "I love it. My dad is
the quarterback coach at our high school, so I've grown up learning a lot from
him. I used to be the waterboy, and I'd pay attention to what they were doing on
the sidelines. I think that helped me learn the system better."
Young says his frame is his best attribute.
"I'm tall and I can see over the line to pick up the
open receivers," he said. "I can also use my speed to get out of the pocket and
throw on the run. I'm real accurate, even when I'm moving."
