Position: Offensive Tackle/Long-Snapper
Size and speed: Sefton is 6-foot-6, weighs 270 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.25 seconds.
Statistics: As a junior, he graded out at 88 percent on the season.
Honors: Was selected to the all-district team.
Favorite Schools: Virginia, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State.
Skinny: In what seemed like a blink of an eye last summer, Ryan Sefton experienced a transformation that turned him from an average-looking high school lineman to an attention-grabbing college prospect.
“I hit a big growth spurt last year,” Sefton said. “It was pretty amazing. I went from about 6-4, 210 to around 6-6, 260. They say I’m still growing, too, so there’s no telling where I’ll end up.
Sefton, who had a soccer background, says he maintained his speed and footwork even after the growth spurt.
“I have real good quickness off the ball and nice lateral movement,” he said. “My long frame and long arms help me a lot in pass coverage. We ran a spread offense last year, and I didn’t allow any sacks.”
That would seemingly make him a prime prospect to watch in the Magnolia State this year.
“I’ve gotten a ton of letters recently,” he said. “I’ve heard a lot from Virginia, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Ole Miss and Memphis. LSU and West Virginia came by the school and talked to me.”
Sefton says Virginia, Vanderbilt and West Virginia currently lead his list of favorites.
“I grew up rooting for a bunch of different teams – Southern Miss, Nebraska, Virginia – but I have family in Virginia, so I like the idea of playing in that part of the country. I also like the education factor (3.4 GPA) of schools like Virginia and Vanderbilt.”
Sefton, who also has the nice complementary skill of long-snapping, plans to attend the Nike combine at Auburn this spring. He hopes to camp at Virginia, Auburn, Ole Miss and Southern Miss this summer.
