Hayes says four teams have shown the most interest in
recruiting him leading up to his expected graduation in May.
"Right now, it's Mississippi State, Kentucky, Auburn and Temple," he
said. "I'm wide open right now, just trying to concentrate on getting my
grades in order so I can move on and keep playing some football."
Originally from Hopkinsville (Ky.) High School, Hayes signed with
Arkansas in 2000 but left the program after pleading guilty to misdemeanor
shoplifting charges in July of 2001. He bounced back with a solid season at
Northeast in 2002, establishing a reputation as one of the league's top
cover men and recording three interceptions.
Hayes (5-10, 175, 4.4) said Kentucky recruited him when he was a high
school senior, but had issues with the former coaching staff that pushed him
to Arkansas. With a new staff in place, that may be a possible destination
for him.
"It looks to me like they've got their program straightened out now," he
said. "I've been thinking about setting up a visit there... definitely."
He visited Mississippi State in November and has an official visit set up
for Temple on Jan. 24.
