Mississippi All-Star commits to Memphis

With several major targets for Memphis University in town this weekend, the staff was able to parlay that into several major commitments. One of those commitments is Jamie McCoy, a Hattiesburg (Miss.) High School lineman that will add depth to the Tigers' offense.
"I committed to Memphis," McCoy said on Monday. "I did that Sunday morning."

McCoy was in Memphis for his second official visit and he liked what he saw. With everything going as he had hoped, McCoy saw no reason to leave uncommitted.
"We went up there and they treated me to a fantastic time," he said. "The university was beautiful and they treated me like family and as soon as I got there it felt like home. I had a feeling that I was going to commit but I wanted them to really want me and I wasn't just filling a void."
The Memphis staff gave McCoy that feeling that he wanted and so did his future teammates.
"We went to one of the Memphis basketball games and they're a great college team," he said. "We hung out with the players and they're great guys and had no problem showing around the younger kids. We explored the campus and it was a beautiful campus and they're really doing a lot of things there."
McCoy chose the Tigers over interest from Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Arkansas State. After a big senior season, McCoy had several accolades and recognitions but is ready to get to work on getting better.
"I had a great year," he said. "I made a lot of lists, made the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game. I made first team all-state and all that. I really need to get back in the gym and get my strength back up. I gotta work on my footwork but I've always had great footwork."
