Miss. TE has six SEC offers

Stacy Jones is being recruited as both a tight end and a defensive end at different schools. Still, the Columbus (Miss.) High standout doesn’t care where he plays, as long as the school he picks is the right fit for him.
“I’ve talked to LSU, FSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida A&M, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Alabama,” Jones said. “They all want me to play different positions, though. I talk to some of the head coaches, and some assistants, too. They switch it up every time they call me.”

To Jones, each school has a different strength going for it.
“I like the defense at LSU, and at FSU I have a former high school teammate that plays there, and he likes the coaches and I do too,” he said. “Auburn has been pretty this year, and I really like their spread offense. I like how Georgia has stayed in contact with me, and I like how Mississippi State is a really young team. I like that situation and how I could probably play early there.”
He’s still undecided on when he will make his official visits, but he says they will come after his season is over. That doesn’t mean he’s keeping off college campuses altogether, though.
“I’m going to set up my five official visits soon after the season,” Jones said. “But right now I’m going to go to some games at Georgia, and I was at the Mississippi State vs. Florida game this weekend.”
With memories of the Bulldog upset fresh in his mind, Jones may have some new motivation when he returns to the high school field this weekend. Still, any collegiate player has a long way to go before they can reach the status of his personal icon.
“I look up to Jerry Rice because I always dreamed of playing receiver and I really like his overall personality,” Jones said. “I try to think about that and then go and do unexpected things. Sometimes it’ll seem like the play is over and I can still break out and make plays on both sides of the ball. As a team we’re playing good lately, and I’ve been playing real good. I had some big games this year.”
