Minnesota the latest to offer four-star Tommy Eichenberg

In the most recent update of the Rivals250, Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius linebacker Tommy Eichenberg debuted at No. 226. The four-star prospect has seen his offer list grow to 13 schools, with Minnesota being the most recent to join the group.

“Coach (Joe) Rossi, he said they were looking for guys that bring energy, just love the game of football and have great potential, and I guess that’s what they saw in me,” Eichenberg said.

Minnesota had been in contact with Eichenberg before the offer, so it did not come completely out of the blue. He is still doing his research on the program, but has been impressed with the Golden Gopher’s head coach.

“I actually saw video on Coach (P.J.) Fleck – I think ESPN did it – and it was awesome,” Eichenberg said. “He’s been in the player’s shoes, he’s experienced what we’re going through and he really bonds with the players well.”

Other new offers have come in from Iowa, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Maryland. Beyond the 13 schools that have offered, Nebraska and Virginia have been showing the strongest interest in Eichenberg recently.

Visits to Michigan State and Ohio State were taken earlier in the winter, and Eichenberg is looking to schedule trips with Boston College, Duke, Iowa and Ohio State this spring.

“I am pretty busy right now with track, but definitely this spring I am going to go out and see a lot more colleges,” Eichenberg said.

Eichenberg is currently involved with indoor track and will shortly transition to outdoor track and field. He focuses on throwing the shot put in both seasons. He finished his junior season with 114 tackles including 19 for loss and 7.5 sacks to go along with two interceptions.
