Minnesota recruit pulls quick trigger

It has been reported that Bloomington (Minn.) Jefferson defensive tackle Tony Brinkhaus surprised fans by making an unexpected early commitment to the University of Minnesota. He had just recently returned from their summer camp with his first scholarship offer in hand.
It is true. He has pulled the trigger and committed to Minnesota.

"I actually did," Brinkhaus said a few minutes ago. "They were the only team that wanted me for defense. Offense (is) not my game."
His cousin, Barrett Ruud, plays for the Nebraska Huskers and Nebraska was his leader. He still likes them, but he feels it would not happen for him at Nebraska.
"I'm a huge fan," the 6-foot-4, 295 pound Brinkhaus said about Cornhuskers. "I think it would be really tough to see the field there. It would have ended up with me going to Minnesota anyway."
He is now 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds. He did the 40-yard dash (hand-timed) in 5.2 seconds at the Minnesota camp.
As a junior, he had 54 tackles, four sacks, 19 quarterback hurries, eight tackles for a loss, three caused fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also played some offensive tackle.
He was named first-team all-conference, first-team all-metro and he was named by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as one of the top twelve players for this coming season.
