Minnesota DE makes decision

As quickly as St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall defensive end Scott Stephenson became a hot target with college coaches, he took himself off the market with a commitment.
"To put it mildly, I couldn't wait to commit," Stephenson, who is 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds, said just moments after returning from his official visit to Minnesota.

"I did it yesterday (Saturday) with great pride and satisfaction, knowing that I could not see myself as anything but a Minnesota Gopher. I will be informing all the schools that have been so gracious to offer me a scholarship and this incredible opportunity and I wish them all well - North Carolina, Kansas State, Iowa and Purdue."
Stephenson said his list of reasons for a Minnesota commitment was long and detailed.
"I measured everything in its proper perspective," he said. "I feel the University of Minnesota excels in the following:
"Quality of education, incredible student athlete consulting and guidance program, top notch coaching staff that I really like and feel comfortable with, and a great opportunity at the defensive end position for, which I am being recruited."
"It's also close to home where my family can come and share in my experiences."
