The University of Minnesota has built a relationship with national power Dallas (Texas) Skyline and it is paying huge dividends. Already with a number of former Skyline players on its roster making an impact, the Gophers added another on Wednesday with the commitment of linebacker Mike Moore.
"I made a decision, I'm committing to Minnesota," Moore said on Wednesday afternoon.
Moore had a strong interest in the Big Ten program but a trip to visit in person set him over the top and he made things official while on campus.
"I already liked Minnesota," he said. "I had been talking to [Keanon Cooper], Spencer [Reeves], Troy [Stoudemire] and Da'Jon [McKnight] and they've been saying what a great place it is but that I had to come see it for myself. I fit into their defense scheme and it's a family scene."
The atmosphere on the Minnesota campus was so much of a family scene that Moore's mother cried tears of joy when he decided to commit.
"I'm the baby of the family," he said. "My sister has already graduated so she said it was a dream come true. She thanked god for it and she was happy for me."
Not only did the atmosphere and the program play to Moore's liking but he also was impressed with the city of Minneapolis - another at-home feel.
"Minneapolis downtown feels just like Dallas downtown," he said. "It feels like home. It's not out in the middle of nowhere. The coaches and I were hit it off from the moment I met them. When they first came on campus they didn't know who I was and I came up and said 'I'm T. Michael Moore' and he said 'I'll be back for you T. Michael Moore' and he got me."
With games national games slated against the likes of St. Thomas Aquinas and Glades Central, Skyline has plenty to worry about on the field and now Moore is ready to focus in on that.
"I'm really excited. Now all I have to worry about it to keep on balling."
