As prospects began arriving for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Sunday, there weren't many that were still undecided in the recruiting process. West Monroe (La.) High linebacker Barkevious Mingo was one that still has yet to make his commitment.
"We're in a dead period right now and I haven't talked to anybody lately," said Mingo. "I guess it's going to pick back up as soon as this week's over. I'm just trying to take it in stride and keep going and make the right decision."
Rivals.com's No. 10-ranked outside linebacker in the country explained that his head coach didn't want him to take any official visits during his season, so he's left them all for the month of January.
"I'm taking a trip to Michigan the week after this is all over with. I think I'm going to Alabama next. LSU and USC are somewhere in there, too."
Though the Wolverines are set for his first visit, Mingo confirmed that does not mean that they're one of his top schools. In fact, they have some ground to make up as the 6-foot-5, 209-pounder currently lists a top three of USC, Alabama and LSU, in no particular order.
The rest of Mingo's visits have not been set up as of yet although he did say that he's had much contact with the above mentioned four schools, along with UConn.
"I've spoken with LSU and Alabama the most. UConn and Michigan have both been down a few times though. I've just talked with USC over the phone. Nick Saban and Les Miles have both come to my house."
Mingo says that his mom has been advising him and has given her advice through the process.
"She told me just to go where I want to go. She said to sit back and go where I'm most comfortable because it's going to be me there the next four to five years, no one else."
It could be till the end of January or even later until Mingo is exactly sure where he's going to play at the next level.
"I'd like to have my decision done by signing day but if that doesn't happen then I'll announce it on that day."
