Millwood TE a hot target

Oklahoma City (Okla.) Millwood has at least three major Big 12 prospects and a lot of the attention deservedly so belongs to Gerald Jones, the do-it-all athlete that is high on everybody's list. But there's also a tight end/receiver that's making major waves.
Get to know Dontae Newton recruiting fans because he's an impact player that is moving up the charts.

Newton was at this past weekend's NIKE Training Camp and after his strong performance there he's expecting more and more teams to come after him. Rivals.com first saw Newton back at the Dallas Junior Day in February, but since that event he's added 10 pounds and is now at 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds.
"I had a good camp," Newton said. "I ran a 4.7, and I thought that was kind of slow, but when I found out that it's an electronic time and it would be about a 4.5 normally, then I felt better. My coach assured me that it was a good time. I also did a good job in the one-on-ones and in the drills.
"I'm pleased with how I did, especially running my routes. I was very good on the hitch and the fade routes."
Newton is also a terror on the field in the pads under the Friday night lights.
"I'm a very good pass-catching tight end," he said. "I need to work on my blocking, and I need to get a little more physical. I'm going to be in the weight room all summer. My goal is to get up to 220. I was down pretty low because I was playing basketball."
Newton has one offer on the table from Baylor and one from Nebraska could come as soon as today.
"Coach Kinne from Baylor is recruiting me," Newton said. "He told me about his son and said maybe in the future we could be playing together and I could be catching passes from him. I think Nebraska is going to offer. They're going to be here (today).
"I've called and talked to John Blake twice, and he's a really cool guy. We've had a couple nice talks. Nebraska is a very good school with a great tradition."
Newton admits, though, that he grew up a big fan of an in-state school.
"I'm looking for something hopefully from OU," Newton said. "I get some letters from them and I'd really love to get some more attention from the Sooners. I grew up a big fan of them."
Newton also listed both Kansas and Kansas State as schools that are showing him interest and he wouldn't mind hearing something from any of the Florida schools. Millwood starts spring practices on May 15.
