Michigan OL still on the board

Offensive tackle Mike VanDerMeulen of Marshall, Mich., still remains on the board as there are still several schools that are showing interest in the 6-foot-7, 290-pounder.
"Right now, I'm looking at Toledo, and they have offered a grayshirt," VanDerMeulen said. "CMU is showing some interest, and I'm also thinking about some prep school options. Toledo offered three or four weeks ago."

VanDerMeulen said Toledo has explained to him what a grayshirt is all about.
"They came to my house, my recruiter came, and he explained everything to my parents and I," he said. "Basically I wouldn't be on the team until next January. I'd be considered an early enrollee, as a freshman in the 2008 class, so I'd be coming in, and way I wouldn't lose any eligibility. I'd go down there for the summer for workouts, I could stay down there, go to a local community college, or I could come back up to Marshall, where I live, and come here and take classes, and go back down there in January."
That offer is really appealing.
"It's between there and prep schools," he said. "I don't have an idea of which prep schools."
How does CMU play in to the picture?
"Coach Jones at CMU and the OL coach visited me at my house, and at my school last Tuesday and they really want to offer me," he said.
"They said they really like me but they have to honor the prior scholarship offers they gave out to other players before they got there, so they have some other lineman and other recruits, and need to call them to see if they're coming."
