Michigan offers R100 DB Lewis

Rivals100 defensive back Marcus Lewis has some big names on his offer sheet and he added another one on Thursday. Michigan extended an offer to the Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga stand out.
"It was definitely big time when I first heard it," said the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Lewis. "Coach Mallory and I have been talking for the past few weeks now and today he let me know they were offering me. I thanked him and I was really excited because he is going to get me on the phone with coach Hoke on Friday. I'm going to try to get up there some time in the spring."

Lewis is very aware of what he could get at Michigan.
"I know they produce a lot of defensive backs," he said. "They have a lot of tradition and are a great school when it comes to academics. I can get a great education there just like I could at a school like Notre Dame. I look forward to seeing it with my own eyes and seeing what they have to offer."
Coach Mallory and Lewis have formed a strong bond over the past two months.
"Coach Mallory and I are really tight," Lewis said. "Even before they offered me, we were talking since Christmas break. He is really cool and wants me to visit so I can hang out with the guys. I'm going to give Michigan a shot."
Lewis will be visiting Miami, Florida and Florida State during the week of March 17 but will be checking out another national powerhouse early in March.
"I'm going to visit Ohio State the first weekend in March," he said. "I'm expecting to see the campus, facilities and academic center. I want my mom to sit down with the coaches because she never really got the chance to talk to them. Ohio State is pretty high on my list. I like how they go about their business. I like talking to coach Meyer and coach Ash. I have a good relationship with them already. We just need to see how it goes and see if I fit in."
Lewis is a highly coveted recruit and many teams are trying very hard to land his commitment.
"Notre Dame, Michigan, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami, Ohio State, Kentucky and USC are all recruiting me very hard," said Lewis. "I was talking to some of the USC coaches the other day. Oregon wants to come to their camp in June so I'm going to try to go out there."
Lewis committed to Virginia Tech early in the process but backed off of that and is now making sure to move slowly through his recruitment.
"At first I said I would narrow things down in the summer but I think, depending on how this spring goes, I could be making cuts after it," he said. "I definitely won't be making a decision until later on."
Lewis thinks Penn State could be his next offer because the previous staff was close to offering him before they left.
