Three-star athlete Kamonte Grimes officially has a top five of Miami, Maryland, Nebraska, Michigan and Kentucky but it’s clear that only a few of those are real options. Below, the versatile Florida-based star discusses his recruitment and outlines a timetable for a decision.

ON HIS TOP FIVE

“It’s Maryland, Nebraska, Kentucky, Miami and that’s about it. Oh and Michigan, too. Forgot Michigan.”

ON THE PECKING ORDER WITHIN THE TOP FIVE

“I haven't visited any of them yet … ever. I had everything set up and ready to go and then everything shut down. You know how that goes. So I guess they are all still pretty equal.”

ON WHICH SCHOOLS HE SPEAKS WITH THE MOST

“All of them, really. I’ve talked to all of them a lot recently. Michigan, Nebraska and Kentucky are probably in contact the most, though. I talked to Michigan this morning.”

ON MICHIGAN

“We talk every day. The coach checks up on me and stuff like that. It’s really chill. He tells me he can’t wait to get me out there.”

ON WHAT HE’S LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING AT MICHIGAN

“Just campus and the facilities. Stuff like that.”

ON NEBRASKA

“I like Nebraska’s offense. I like the play style there. That’s the big thing. Plus, I really like coach [Scott] Frost and Coach [Matt] Lubick. I like the way they coach.”

ON A POSSIBLE NEBRASKA VISIT

“I really hope I can get up there as soon as all this ends because I have a strong interest, but I want to see it all for myself.”

ON KENTUCKY

“I like those coaches, too. I love Coach [Mark] Stoops and Coach [Darin] Hinshaw. I like the offense, too.”

ON THE KENTUCKY OFFENSE

“It’s similar to the teams I’ve played on my whole life. They get the ball to their guys in space and let them work. I like that. It’s comfortable for me.”

ON A DECISION TIMETABLE

“Hopefully, mid September at the latest. I would obviously like to visit first, but if it comes down to it I’m confident in my choice.”

ON HIS STYLE OF PLAY:

“I’m really versatile. I have no set position. I think I’m really an athlete that can do anything you ask him to do.”

RIVALS REACTION: Michigan was once rightfully seen as the favorite here and probably still is. That said, Nebraska is also a serious option. The fact that Grimes will likely choose a school before visiting campus makes his recruitment a bit unpredictable. The Huskers and Wolverines both sent Grimes official offer letters and a decision could be coming in the near future.
