Michigan junior offered as sophomore

Recruiters always want to get the jump on their competition if possible. And certainly the coaching staff at Eastern Michigan knows that.
"Eastern Michigan offered me at the end of my sophomore year," Allen Park, Mich., junior defensive back Derek Brighton said. "That's my first offer."
But Eastern Michigan is not the only school already showing interest in Brighton. He has been invited to a number of schools for unofficial visits.
"I saw Michigan play Minnesota," Brighton said. "I went to Notre Dame and saw them play Michigan. I like Michigan State too."
Brighton's interest in the Spartans is not surprising. His brother Bryan Brighton is a defensive back at Michigan State. However Derek's favorite might surprise some who would perhaps assume Derek would have the Spartans at the top of his list.
"My favorite would probably be Notre Dame," Derek said. "The atmosphere is good there. The tradition is good."
The 6-foot, 175-pound Derek Brighton intercepted five passes during his sophomore season at Allen Park. He is playing cornerback and running back his junior season and has one interception and close to 700 yards rushing as Allen Park has won all seven of its games.
