Miami, UGA lead the way for junior standout

A class-of-2018 prospect, Donovan Georges won’t sign a letter of intent for more than a year. His offer list, which currently stands at seven, will likely have expanded greatly by that time. He knows it. His coaches know and anyone that has watched him play knows it as well.

Still, it’s not stopping the Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic High School linebacker from putting thought into his recruitment. Things can change over the course of a year. They probably will in this case. But, for now, Georges is focused on just two programs.

“Miami and Georgia,” Georges said. “It’s just Georgia and UM right now.”

Georges’ most recent visit was one to check out Miami during the Hurricanes’ game with Florida State. Following the trip some believed that the impression was enough to make UM the early favorite to land a commitment from the in-state star. It’s a fact Georges doesn’t openly agree with. It’s also one he doesn’t outright deny.

“Right now I’m just looking to see how they look so far and see what’s going on with their defense,” he said when asked if Miami leads his recruitment. “We’ll see. I’m still feeling it out.”

But Georges is equally short and vague when asked about a trip he made to Georgia earlier in the year. If he has a set pecking order in mind, he’s certainly doing his best to hide it.

“Everything there was a pretty good sight to see,” he said of UGA. “I haven’t gone to a game yet, though.”

Georges is part of a Champagnat defense that helped the program capture a district title this season. Georges and the Lions currently boast a 7-0 record.

IN HIS WORDS: “I’m going to wait [to make commitment] to see how it’s looking and let everyone know. I don’t really have a time set.”

RIALS REACTION: Despite what Georges says or doesn’t say, Miami likely holds at least a small lead here. That could be because of exposure, proximity or any number of other factors. Thing is, it may not matter much at this juncture. Georges’ recruitment will evolve greatly in the next year. New offers will arrive and his stock will likely fluctuate. Projecting a landing place now is difficult.
