Miami offers, moves to the top of George's list

Just a couple of weeks ago, Rivals.com was talking with Realus George after his football game against Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove. He had played another great game on both sides of the ball that night and he mentioned a few schools that could be close to offering him.

One was not Miami.

The Hurricanes showed some interest in him last spring, but the 6-foot-1, 245 pond senior out of Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy has not heard from the Hurricanes since.

That was until Wednesday evening. Miami called his head coach, Chris Slade, who played at Virginia and in the NFL. Then offensive coordinator Thomas Brown gave George a call and told him the Hurricanes were ready to extend an offer his way.

"It is a fantastic feeling," George told Rivals.com Wednesday night. "Coach Brown told me I would be a perfect fit in their offense, that I was the type of player they need at the fullback position and then he offered me.

"It really surprised me."

The No. 1-ranked fullback in the country already has plans to visit Coral Gables (Fla.). He is going to be there for their game against Virginia November 18th, then George will take his official visit after the season.

He can't wait to get down there.

"When I visit Miami, I’m looking forward to meeting all of the coaches and touring the campus. To me, no matter how much you know about a school, nothing trumps that feeling you get when you visit, on whether you like it or not.

Schools like Appalachian state, Army, Boston College and FAU have offered George, but after Tuesday night, all trail Mark Richt's Hurricanes.

"Miami is No. 1 now," said George. "I know that Miami is a school that is the alma mater of many college and NFL legends and to have an opportunity to be a part of that is awesome.

"I love the tradition of the school and I like that Mark Richt is the head coach there. I think he always gets the best out of his players. As far as academics, I would be getting a top education and that’s what really matters most to me."
