Rivals Camp MVP DE Dennis Briggs says Miami building "something special"

The Latest: Class of 2018 three-star defensive lineman Dennis Briggs has seen his recruitment explode in recent weeks, with programs from all over the country joining his offer list. But one of the biggest offers he received was actually from a program relatively close to home. The Miami Hurricanes recently joined his list and Briggs has already seen the campus in Coral Gables in person. So what are this thoughts on the Canes? Rivals.com caught up with him at the recent Orlando stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas.

In His Words: “My process is just starting to take off now so I would say Miami is one of my top schools. Others that are up there are Oregon, Tennessee, Wisconsin, South Carolina and a few other schools.”

On the Hurricanes: “I actually just got the offer when I visited for a junior day. I just took a tour around the campus. I loved the campus. I actually got to sit down with Coach Richt. He’s a really cool guy. They’re building something special at Miami. I talked with the defensive line coach, too, I have a good connection with him and we’ve been keeping in contact since then. I really learned a lot about the program when I was there. Not just football but academics as well. It really helped me learn about it. Yeah I like the in-state aspect. I’m going to try to stay close to my family and whatever happens, happens but I’m going to try.”

On Tennessee: “I got the offer two weeks ago and me and the coach have a really good connection, Coach Gillespie. That just helps out and I think I’m taking a visit up there mid-summer.”

On upcoming visits: “Hopefully I get to Florida State and USF spring practices, I’m going to try to go to Miami’s too and if not I’ll be back in the summer.”

Rivals Reaction: Briggs made it clear that when Miami joined the mix with an offer that they were the team to beat and that still appears to be the case at the moment. One thing Briggs say was that he’s going to take a more measured approach, especially with the number of offers he’s received in recent weeks. His visit pattern will be one to watch as the spring moves along.
