Miami, FSU lead the way for versatile 2018 safety

THE LATEST: The list of favorites Jamien Sherwood rattles off is, in a word, complex. There’s no singular frontrunner to land his commitment. Not at this juncture. Instead, he says a pair of in-state schools are battling it out for the top spot on his list.

He’s have until Signing day 2018 to decide and he intends to take his time. That said, Sherwood is certainly giving his situation some thought.

“My favorite schools right now are Miami -- because I just feel the love there and I could fit in -- and FSU because it's my dream school,” he said via text. “I like UCF, too.”

Sherwood lists eight offers as things stand now but interest seems to be rising by the week. Schools are in touch with both the star safety and his coaches and the offer train shows no sign of slowing.

There are at least two offers not yet on the table that Sherwood hopes materialize sooner rather than later.

“I’m hoping to get offered by Stanford and West Virginia,” he said.

IN HIS WORDS: “I feel I'd get a WVU offer first, before Stanford. But I'll probably get both soon.”

RIVALS REACTION: The reasons for Sherwood’s lack of ranking is the uncertainty on what position he’ll play in college. There’s a (small) chance he could grow into a linebacker but he certainly has an unbelievably bright future at safety if he retains his quickness and agility. He is a weapon as a running back and in the return game for his high school team. As of now, he’s one of the state’s more impressive players at the position. Florida State and Miami will likely battle it out for Sherwood, but the allure of Stanford is real. Should the Cardinal offer, the California-based institution will become a real possibility.
