Miami Norland cornerback Shannon Ballard already was one of the better defensive backs in South Florida. His results at the Miami NIKE Camp helped further cement that, when he clocked a 4.67-electronic time in the 40-yard dash and had a vertical leap of 32 inches.
But Ballard has been working hard this spring in practices and drills to get better.
"I'm getting there," Ballard said. "The team is looking good, and we're really coming together. To be honest, I'm not focused totally on me. I want our team to come together like brothers. We have to become one."
Still Ballard admits he wants to improve on a few things.
"I want to get my speed further down," Ballard said. "I like to hit and get to the football, but I really want to get my speed down in the 4.4 range."
Still he's at a point now where he's already picked up one scholarship offer from Akron.
"I've talked to Auburn, Temple, UConn and Akron on the phone so far," Ballard said. "Akron let me know that my offer is still there on the table, and Auburn talked to me about an offer. I know that they're one of the best teams in the country. I like the coaching staff all right there, but I just really like their style of play."
Ballard had 74 tackles and one interception as a junior.
