"It was a great feeling," Vandyke said. "It was kind of like I was just hoping to get that first one and now I have."
FIU did not specify which position it was recruiting Vandyke to play.
"They didn't say, but most likely cornerback," he said.
Vandyke had three interceptions and nine pass break-ups in 2005.
More offers could be forthcoming. Rutgers has been sending Vandyke text messages.
"I think Rutgers is close," he said.
Vandyke attended Junior Day at the University of Miami this past weekend.
"UM has great facilities," he said. "I got to watch the NFL day, got to see their seniors work out for pro scouts. Devin Hester ran a 4.27 40. He's got some kind of speed."
Vandyke, who is considering the Canes, along with Rutgers, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and South Florida also has been receiving some interest from the Gators. He will travel to Gainesville for Florida's spring game April 22.
"I'm still favoring the same schools," Vandyke said.
Vandyke plans to attend the Miami NIKE Camp April 9 on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.
