Metroplex DE commits to local school
Denton (Texas) Ryan defensive end Ben Goldthorpe took his first official visit and grabbed his first scholarship offer this past weekend. The sleeper defender saw enough to make a decision.
Goldthorpe, who had picked up some Division II offers, says that he took an official trip just up the road to SMU. There he received an offer and gave the Mustangs his commitment.

"I went there for a trip, they offered, I liked what I saw, so I just went with it," Goldthorpe said. "I just liked the staff there. They made you feel like you were at home."
Another factor for Goldthorpe was the campus and the academic opportunities.
"The campus was awesome," Goldthorpe said. "Plus, I want to major in business and that's not a bad place to get a business degree. It will pay off in the long run."
Goldthorpe was being recruited by coach Eric Roark.
"He's an awesome guy," he said about Roark. "He'll be my position coach so I'm looking forward to working with him."
