Merritt lands second offer

Athlete Jamal Merritt out of Sandy Spring (Md.) Sherwood landed his second scholarship in recent weeks. Who's the latest team to pull the trigger on the 6-foot-0, 175-pounder?
"I've got offers from Rutgers and East Carolina," he said. "ECU offered about two weeks ago.

"I think East Carolina's got a good program going on the last few years. I got some family that lives down there and I plan to get down for a visit."
Meanwhile, his other offer, Rutgers continues to be in solid position as well.
"I like Rutgers a lot," he stated. "I like the facilities and the coaches seem like good coaches. They produce athletes and put them into the league. They have been top ten in the last couple years and their academics are top of the line. They graduate half of their players, that's a plus too."
Not too long ago, Merritt took visits to a couple colleges.
"I went to Pittsburgh for their spring game and North Carolina for a junior day," he said. "North Carolina was ok. I liked Pittsburgh a lot. It was very nice. The atmosphere, stadium and facilities were good."
A few other schools are coming into the picture as well in contact with Merritt's coach including West Virginia, Connecticut and Virginia Tech.
Merritt confirmed plans to take visits this summer, but has yet to schedule anything. He confirmed Pittsburgh, Penn State, Rutgers, Temple and Virginia Tech have requested he come for one-day camps.
With all of that said, does Merritt have any leaders?
"Right now it's still hard to say," he said. "I haven't done too many visits or talked to coaches that much so far. So, it's hard to say where I'm leaning to."
