Merrill close to planning visits

St. Augustine (Fla.) wide receiver Markis Merrill said in November that the four schools in contact with him the most at that time was Arkansas, Middle Tennessee, Georgia, and South Florida. Those remain the main schools in the picture for the three-star prospect as January approaches.
"It is still the same," Merrill said. "I am still trying to get everything situated for that big day in February."

The 6-foot, 183-pound wideout is planning to set up his official visits in about a week.
"When I get back to school next Monday, I will probably have some set up," Merrill said. "Arkansas is probably going to be first and then probably Georgia. Then I will have to decide on where else."
Merrill, who holds offers from Arkansas, Florida International, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, South Florida, and Troy, talked a bit about why he is certain he wants to return to Fayetteville to check out the Razorbacks.
"I went there on an unofficial visit and I liked everything I saw," Merrill said. "I like their academics, they explained everything. Watching them practice, how the offense is and how they throw the ball, I like that. I got along real good with the coaches."
As for Georgia, who has yet to offer, Merrill has been in regular contact with them as he awaits an offer from Mark Richt and staff.
"Before we left for break I talked to them, they came to the school," Merrill said. "They said after the break they were going to contact me and we would go from there."
At this time, Merrill intends to decide on National Signing Day.
