Three-star linebacker Jamal Merrell of Newark (Dela.) Hodgson Vo-Tech and his twin brother Jamil Merrell have already set one official visit and they may be close to setting up their remaining trips.
Jamal, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound outside linebacker, confirmed that he and his brother would be taking an official visit to Pitt sometime down the road. They do not have a date set, but they said it would be during the season.
"We've also been talking to Rutgers and Syracuse a lot lately," he said. "Actually we've been talking to all of the schools we've mentioned before, or at least most of them.
"We like Pitt and we went down there over the summer and met the coaching staff. I think we both really like their coaches a lot. They've wanted us to come out for a while so we decided to do it."
Merrell said schools are recruiting him as either an outside linebacker or a safety, depending on his physical development over the next year. His brother Jamil is being recruited as a defensive end.
"We'll probably be taking some of our visits after the season," he said. "We're going to be in the playoffs, so we're trying to set them up but it's tough because we don't want them to conflict with our season.
"If there are schools farther away from home that we're going to visit, we'll probably do that after the season sometime. We haven't really talked too much about the others yet. The Pitt visit will be the first one but we're definitely going to visit more."
The Merrell twins will be taking all five official visits together. Jamil is ranked the No. 30 outside linebacker in the nation and Jamal is rated the No. 15 weakside defensive end.
