Memphis TE drawing more attention

Memphis Christian Brothers tight end Brett Russell is a new name emerging in Tennessee.
Russell (6-4, 225, 4.7) was a first-team all-state selection as a junior after catching 31 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns. In addition to a solid frame that will wind up packing several more pounds at the next level, he also boasts a 280 bench, 410 squat and 35-inch vertical.

“I went to Ole Miss’ senior camp, Memphis’ senior camp, Arkansas State’s camp and a Middle Tennessee combine here in town,” Russell said of his summer schedule. “I also went to the Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana. I started getting a lot more attention after those.”
Russell said he’s received interest from a long list of schools which includes Miami, Florida, Oklahoma, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Memphis and Auburn.
He hasn’t received his first scholarship offer to date, but has been told by several coaches that he’ll be on their watch list early in the season.
“I think Ole Miss, Florida and Auburn were really interested,” he said. “Also MTSU, Memphis and Western Michigan. Those schools have given me the most attention so far.”
Any favorites?
“I grew up an Ole Miss fan,” he said. “I like them a lot. I had a good time at their camp. But it’s pretty much wide-open right now until I get some scholarship offers to compare. I haven’t written anyone off.”
Russell is also a solid student. He maintains a 3.2 GPA and has scored a 23 on the ACT.
