Melifonwu names some favorites

One of the biggest surprises last week at the Cal State Game was Fred Melifonwu who has two favorites at this point and is looking forward to official visits in January.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound defensive end from San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln said he has offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Washington, Nevada and San Diego State and that two programs especially look good.

"They're all in the mix but I think Washington and Nevada are the schools I really like a lot," Melifonwu said.
Official visits are being scheduled for the coming weeks and Melifonwu said he plans to take a trip to Nevada for the weekend of Jan. 18.
Going to Washington and Colorado also seem to be in the plans but no dates have been set yet.
Melifonwu, who had a bunch of tackles in the Cal State Game, said he's focused on basketball season but after the New Year he will start to seriously take a look at his football recruiting.
In his senior season, Melifonwu finished with 81 tackles including 10.5 sacks so there's no doubt he's going to be a steal for whichever program lands his commitment.
"I'm just out here trying to do my thing," Melifonwu said after the Cal State Game. "Everybody wants to play. It's competitive. We just had to ball and we proved it. I'm just glad we just got this win.
"All these people have all these colleges so I'm just trying to better myself. I'm playing basketball right now so after basketball I'm going to work on my speed, get ready for college, whichever school I'm going to. Visits are coming up."
