CLASS OF 2019 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | State | Position | Team

The 2019 class is officially on the clock and with the early Signing Period just about nine months away and the first opportunity for prospects to take official visits coming this spring, it’s time for recruiting fans from across the country to start familiarizing themselves with the class of 2019.

We at Rivals.com are here to help. Over the next two weeks, we will introduce the top five players at each position in the class. Today we take a lot at dual-threat quarterbacks.

Early contenders: Oklahoma (committed), UCLA, Arizona, Texas A&M

Breakdown: Rattler has been committed to Oklahoma since last summer and he’s shown no signs of wavering since. But that doesn’t seem to stop his name from popping up on the wish list of several schools, including the Bruins, Wildcats and Aggies. It’s highly unlikely he ends up elsewhere, but lure of staying close to home or playing for a marquee coach like Chip Kelly or Jimbo Fisher at least lands those schools in the conversation.

Early contenders: Michigan State (committed), Oregon, Iowa State

Breakdown: Mathis committed to the Spartans back in September and has kept a pretty low profile on the recruiting circuit ever since. However, the Michigan native has already flipped once after making an early commitment to the Cyclones and Oregon also threw its hat into the ring with an offer in December. Pulling the versatile athlete out of Michigan will be tough, but don’t expect teams to stop trying.

Early contenders: USC, Ohio State, Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa State, Oregon, Florida State, among others

Breakdown: Daniels has seen his recruitment explode over the past few months and he now boasts a national list of offers. He’s spoken recently about wanting to visit both Ohio State and Nebraska and he ranks high on the list for the Tide and the Seminoles. But like most elite prospects from Southern California, USC is in the picture and will likely have a lot to say about where Daniels eventually ends up. If he follows through on his talks of taking visits around the country, it could be quite a race to land his commitment.

Early contenders: Oregon, Miami, Michigan, LSU, among others

Breakdown: Johnson has been a fixture on the national recruiting scene for years and collected most of his offers prior to his junior season of high school. Because of that his recruitment is a little clearer, with Oregon and Miami emerging as the favorites. Johnson’s father is the wide receivers coach for the Ducks and he’s basically around the program on a weekly basis, but he’s said multiple times he fully expects to treat each school equally. The Canes have ramped up their pursuit and appear to be making him their No. 1 priority in the class, so it will be fun to watch if he stays home with the Ducks or flies south to play for The U.

Early contenders: Florida State, Penn State, Michigan, TCU, Virginia, among others

Breakdown: Phommachanh is another prospect who continues to net big-time offers on a nearly weekly basis. But the Seminoles appear to be out to a good start in their pursuit, mainly because of his relationship with assistant coach Walt Bell. The two have been in contact since Bell was at Maryland and Phommachanh has openly talked about his love for the ‘Noles. Penn State also jumped near the top of his list after offering earlier this month and several other programs are jockeying to get him on campus soon.
