MDs Hughes lands his first two offers

After a solid junior season, Germantown (Md.) Seneca Valley safety Xavier Hughes has begun to pick up offers. The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder holds two scholarships at this point.
"I did well last year," he said. "I had 63 tackles and three interceptions. Last year was my breakout season. I had a couple nice hits and my play was much more consistent.

"I still want to improve. I've got to work on my form tackling. Sometimes I'm flying, throwing my body at people."
The season has resulted in two offers so far.
"I've got offers from West Virginia and Buffalo," he said. "I got Buffalo on Friday and West Virginia a week before that.
"I'm very appreciative of the offers. I want to go up and visit the schools to see how I feel about them if I were to go there.
"I do like West Virginia's football team. They are good and it's a great program. They send a lot of people to the NFL too."
Is there an early favorite for Hughes?
"My favorite school is Ohio State," he said. "I'm a die-hard fan of them. I'm from the Cleveland area and moved when I was four. I go back there a lot to visit and I just love the program. I've always watched them.
"If they were to offer that would be the best thing since sliced break. I'd probably commit on the first day, I love that school."
What does Hughes want in a college in general?
"First of all, I want to see if they have the type of major I want," he said. "I'm looking at musical engineering. Next, I want somewhere I can get some playing time, I don't want to sit on the bench. Location doesn't really matter at all to me."
In the near future, Hughes plans to take some visits.
"I'm going to West Virginia for the spring game in two weeks and I'm scheduling something with Rutgers soon."
