MD safety makes a surprise pick

On Friday, safety Jonathan Mason out of Mitchellville (Md.) DeMatha made a decision. Despite having offers from Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Ohio, Army, Eastern Michigan and numerous other schools. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder elected to head to the Ivy League.
"I committed to Harvard on Friday," he said. "It came down to a little more than football. I think by going there it'll set me up for the rest of my life. In the end, it came down to Vanderbilt and Harvard.

"The academics were big since I'm going into business administration and then when I went up there on a visit I liked the atmosphere. I was surprised how normal the people were and I liked the coaches. I've known them for a long time."
Mason is going for football too. What did he like about that?
"It's a good situation for me," he said. "They graduated their two safeties this year and I have a chance to play early there."
Mason finished by saying.
"It was a family decision, my parents and me," he said. "It's a great opportunity and the place for me."
