McWhirter is excited to land his second offer from the Cyclones.
"I really didn't know much about Iowa State until I made my unofficial visit. I really liked the coaches as well as the facilities at Iowa State. They have an enormous indoor facility, and it's one of the biggest indoor facilities I've seen. I'm doing plenty of research on the Cyclones now, and I'm excited about getting an offer from them."
McWhirter, who is receiving hand-written mail from several schools including Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Michigan State and Ohio State also had a chance last week to make unofficial visit to Iowa and Nebraska.
"I really liked the coaches at Iowa, and the facilities at Iowa are top notch. The coaches at Iowa told me that the are recruiting just one defensive end in this class and that they really want me to camp there this summer."
"Nebraska also has some great coaches. I had a chance to meet and talk with the coaches as well as getting a chance to tour the camp and the facilities. Nebraska has just great facilities, and they are in the process of adding a new facility behind the South end zone that looks like it will be just a great addition to the already great facilities."
McWhirter, who now has early offers from Minnesota and Iowa State, is still open from a favorites standpoint. McWhirter is looking to check out a few spring events over the next few weeks..
"I'm hoping to get a chance to check out the Nebraska spring game but I'm still not sure if I can make it. I'm also planning to check out Michigan State on April 10th. From a camp standpoint, I'm planning on attending the Nike Camp on May 7th either at Kansas State or at Michigan. I'm still not sure about the college camps just yet."
