McKinley receives offer No. 1

Plano (Texas) Prestonwood 2018 cornerback Verone McKinley III is no stranger to college coaches. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound defender is already squarely on college radars, and this spring there have been more than a few visitors through Prestonwood to check him out.
Attention is nice and he is thankful, but on Tuesday he was presented with his first opportunity to play football on the college level as the LSU Tigers extended a scholarship offer.

"It's a blessing," McKinley said. "I've worked hard and I feel I've earned it. It's just a blessing to receive this."
LSU being the first to offer was also very special.
"Well, I've always had an interest in LSU," McKinley said. "It's the SEC, DBU. You know Patrick Peterson, I love Patrick Peterson. Talking to them is something I enjoy. I enjoy the family environment and how they really enjoy me and that's what made this offer so extravagent. I'm really honored."
He is already familiar with the Tiger program. He is close with current LSU Tiger Jamal Adams and his family, and he has already built a solid bond with LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond.
"I've built a relationship mainly with coach Raymond because he's a DB guy so that's who's been recruiting me," McKinley said. "I like the way he coaches and he likes my playing style. It's a good environment and everything is good down there."
Alabama, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State have also expressed considerable interest, and he is excited to see what the future will bring.
He does not know what camps he will attend this summer at this time, but he does know he wants to take a trip to Baton Rouge.
"Oh yes sir, I'm going to have to figure it out with my family and all, but I want to go down there soon," McKinley said.
