McKelvie has a favorite

Safety Demetrius McKelvie out of Waccamaw (N.C.) East Columbus has already taken in a couple junior days. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder visited North Carolina and North Carolina State not too long ago.
"I've been to junior days to NC State last Saturday and UNC a couple weeks ago," he said. "Right now I'm really trying to go to NC State for two sports if I can get a hold of the baseball coach.

"I'm favoring NC State because I like the campus and the people. They are down to earth and they have nice facilities. I'm also sure they'll be pretty competitive in a few years with their new coach. I see he's getting good recruits."
While the Wolfpack lead, a few other schools including Clemson, Wake Forest, South Carolina and East Carolina are also interested.
"My top three are NC State, ECU and Clemson," he said. "I've seen the campus of ECU and it is good. I'm planning to go there in a couple weeks. I haven't been to Clemson, but I like my recruiting coordinator. They are a really good program too."
McKelvie is looking for a few things out of a college in general.
"I want to be around people that are like me," he stated. "I think I'm going to go to school for engineering, so that's another advantage for NC State. They have a good engineering program. I also probably wouldn't want to go that far away either."
Last season the safety prospect helped his team to a 5-7 season.
"We lost in the first round of the playoffs," he said. "I did pretty well. I finished with eight interceptions on the year. I think I took a leadership role. I still want to work on my speed and ability to tackle lower."
McKelvie isn't just a good football player, but also a potential baseball prospect.
"If I sign with a college I want to play both if there is a chance," he said. "I've heard there's the possibility I could also get drafted. If I get drafted by the past the tenth round I'll play college.
"I play right field and helped our team to the third round of the state championship. I hit about .375."
