McHargue talks new offer and ISU visit

Round Rock (Texas) Vista Ridge dual-threat quarterback Taylor McHargue was excited late last week to be taking his first official visit to Iowa State. However before he left for Ames, he found something else to be excited about: his first FBS offer.
"I was offered by Houston," McHargue said Sunday night. "They offered me last Friday. I was excited. They had emailed me early in the week and the quarterback coach told me he was going to keep watching my tape. Then Coach Gilbert called my coach on Friday and I got on the phone and he made the offer."

The Houston offer holds a special interest for McHargue in large part because of the location.
"Playing in Texas is a big deal to me and they're having a good year," he said. "They throw the ball all the time and they have that run and gun offense. It's definitely somewhere I will be considering."
Another school that McHargue will be considering is Iowa State and his official visit this past weekend sent him home very impressed. Though McHargue has yet to receive an offer from the Cyclones, the official visit made it clear that there is mutual interest.
"The Iowa State trip went really well," he said. "I loved it up there. They didn't make an offer but that's alright. I wasn't expecting one because they had just started showing me interest. "
Despite the loss to Texas A&M, McHargue was impressed not only with the football program but also with its fans.
"They have an awesome fan base," he said. "It's well documented that they're not having the best year but it was packed and all of the fans were great. The facilities were great too. I didn't know the facilities were that good. There were tons of stuff that they did, little extra stuff they'd do to make you feel welcome from the time you wake up until the time you go to sleep things were taken care of."
McHargue left the Iowa State campus without an offer in hand but through talking with the staff and visiting with head coach Gene Chizik, he has a good idea of where he stands.
"Right now I think I'm in a pretty good position with them," he said. "I don't think they'd give me an official visit if I wasn't high on their board. They're looking at a couple guys right now and they're going to offer one. [Coach Chizik] is a really good guy. He's very straight forward and tells it like it is and I like him a lot."
