McHargue makes change

Cedar Park (Texas) Vista Ridge three-star dual-threat quarterback Taylor McHargue put recruiting in his rear view mirror when he committed to Iowa State in late October. However, with a coaching change in Ames, that shuffled things up and allowed other programs to get back in the picture.
However, in the end it was only one other team that was picture perfect.

"When I committed to Iowa State, I really felt comfortable," McHargue, the nation's No. 31 dual-threat quarterback, said. "But that entire offensive staff is gone. I took a visit to Houston this past weekend and felt it was the better fit for me.
"I called coach Kevin Sumlin as they were getting on the bus to head up to Fort Worth for the Armed Forces Bowl and told him I wanted to commit. He was pretty excited. I was always keeping my options open, but Iowa State is where I intended to go and I kept recruiting in the rear view mirror."
But the change in Ames changed things for him.
"Houston is a program in the rise," McHargue, who is 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds, said.
"Even though they had a new coach, they had a successful season. They were in a position to compete for the conference championship in his first season. It's going to be a great program that definitely is moving up."
