McHaney picks up big in-state offer

Brentwood (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy tight end/defensive end Thad McHaney has been to the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium before but this weekend he walked away with a scholarship offer in hand. The Volunteers gave McHaney his third official SEC offer after his trip this weekend to Tennessee's junior day.
"Me and Alex (Bullard) went up there Saturday night and met with Coach Clawson and he gave me the offer," McHaney said. "I was there for the Junior Day that Sunday and he just wanted us to come up early."

As the state's top football program, McHaney was very excited about the offer, and a little surprised.
"I'm very excited about it," he said. "It's kind of unexpected. They said they like me on both offense and defense but right now I'm coming for defense. It was fun. It was a good experience. I got to see the campus. It was real nice they showed us the new plans, which blew my mind."
McHaney knows the gameday atmosphere in Knoxville as he saw the Georgia-Tennessee game this past season however he's excited about the new additions to the facilities.
"They're building a weight room and the locker room is going to open up right onto the field where they run out through the 'T'."
Though the offer from Tennessee puts the Volunteers high on McHaney's list, the versatile lineman isn't quite ready to make a decision.
"Right now it is up there," he said of the offer. "It's tough to make a decision. I just want to talk to my family and make sure it's the right thing. I'm probably going to make my decision after the season."
McHaney now has two more potential Junior Days on the horizon.
"I'm going to try to go to the Alabama Junior Day this weekend because I missed it two weeks ago," he said. "I'm going to try to go to Kentucky on March 29."
