Alief (Texas) Taylor 2015 safety Kenneth McGruder looms large in the Lion secondary at 6-foot-1 and 195-pounds. He is a big hitter who covers a lot of ground, and he earned all-district honors for his efforts as a junior in 2013.

The college attention has arrived and the standout defender is excited about the way the recruiting process has started.
"It's been good. It's been great," McGruder said. "There's a lot of coaches coming in and looking at me, like Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State. A whole lot of schools like that are coming in and are saying they're definitely going to offer me in the spring and things like that. Indiana just came yesterday and they said they were going to offer me, but they don't have their safety coach right now. Most of them are talking about definitely in the spring offering me."
Two programs have extended offers. The first program to come through with an offer was the Arkansas Razorbacks, who did so last week.
"That first offer was great," McGruder said. "That being my first offer really meant a lot to me coming from Arkansas. It's an SEC school, it's a D1 school and it was my first offer. Arkansas, it's pretty cool. I'll definitely keep looking into them because it was my first offer. You know, most schools don't want to be that first offer. They want someone else to do it. Since they gave me that first offer, I'll definitely keep in touch with them."
Then today, McGruder was offered by the UTSA Roadrunners, after head coach Larry Coker and assistant Perry Eliano stopped by Taylor High School.
"UTSA, they've been coming since we were in season because they were first talking to Romello Booker and I guess he saw my film and stuff," McGruder said. "I was already talking to UTSA. It surprised me. I didn't know they were coming in to offer me today. They just told me this morning."
McGruder does not have any visits on his schedule right now, but he has received several invitations.
"A lot of them keep telling me about all of their different junior days," McGruder said. "I think UTSA wanted me to come to one.. There's a lot of schools who want me to come down. I'm definitely going to go to a couple of them. I know I really want to go to the Texas A&M one and UT. "
One thing he does have on his schedule is the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour. McGruder plans to attend the Houston camp on Sunday, March 9 at Westfield High School.
