McGoveran talking to Mountain West

Arvada (Colo.) Pomona High defensive lineman Shawn McGoveran has had a couple of setbacks, including a recent concussion, during his senior season. Luckily, those delays in his success haven’t bled over into his recruiting.
"I’ve been talking a lot to Utah, Colorado State, Wyoming and Idaho lately,” McGoveran said. “It really stands out how Utah is having such a great year. I also like how Colorado State and Wyoming are really strong programs, and at Idaho I could probably get to play early.”

McGoveran has already taken one visit, an unofficial to Wyoming, but says he plans to visit at least two more, probably soon after the season ends.
“I’m planning to visit Utah and Colorado State pretty soon, I just have to set up the visits there,” he said. “I’ll go after the season is over, but I’m going to set it up soon. I had a really good visit to Wyoming. It was a great time, and changed my perspective on the school.”
McGoveran’s concussion in last week’s game may have concerned some family members and Pomona fans, but he claims that the injury is only a minor hold up in his season. The senior defensive leader is more concerned with his team’s 5-4 record.
“A guy hit me in the head from the blind side and that just put me out,” McGoveran said. “I feel 100 percent, but the doctors told me I have to stay out this week. We already have a couple of key injuries, and we’re 5-4, so we really need the win this week. If we win Friday we’ll make the playoffs, so I wish I could get back.”
A self-proclaimed ‘intense’ player, McGoveran said his strongest suit on the field is his willingness to play hard on every down. It’s no surprise, then, where he got his motivation to use the jersey number 52.
“I love how Ray Lewis [Baltimore Ravens linebacker] plays with so much intensity,” McGoveran said. “That’s why I picked the number 52, because I want to play with the intensity he brings every time.”
McGoveran also added that his close friend and injured Pomona running back, John Acedo, is considering walking on to either Wyoming or Colorado State. The destination could be an outside factor in where the lineman ends up.
“It’d be really good to play with him,” he said. “I sure don’t want to have to play against him.”
