McGary surprised by big offer

There were some letters and some recruiting attention but 2014 offensive tackle Kaleb McGary was pleasantly surprised recently when he landed his later offer from Oregon.
It's another big offer for the 6-foot-9, 270-pound prospect from Vancouver (Wash.) Battle Ground and one he'll definitely consider as his recruitment continues.

"I talked to them some," McGary said.
"It was kind of a surprise to get the offer. I talked to them some but not a whole lot actually. I got a ton of letters from them but those are just letters. It was definitely a surprise and a very good surprise especially because they're playing so well.
"It's always cool, it's definitely cool to have a top team in the nation recruiting me. It doesn't really lower the way I look at any of the other colleges though. It boosts my opinion of them but doesn't lower any of the other colleges."
McGary, one of the top linemen in the Pacific Northwest next recruiting cycle, has taken one trip to Oregon but it was in the eighth grade so he wasn't being seriously recruited at that time.
Still, it is fresh enough in his mind that McGary remembers being impressed by the facilities and liking the campus.
"I was there a really long time ago," McGary said. "I walked around a little bit and it was pretty cool. I got to see their facilities and it was pretty awesome."
So far, the Battle Ground standout has been offered by Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
Vanderbilt and Boise State continue to send regular recruiting mail along with Michigan and Nebraska.
