"I was up at Maryland last weekend for one of their practices talking to coach Ralph Friedgen in his office for like 45 minutes and at the end of the conversation he handed me a scholarship letter," he said. "I was pretty surprised even though my coach said they were probably going to offer, I just wasn't expecting it then. It raises my interest a lot more in them now with the offer on the table."
What does McEowen like about Maryland in general?
"I really liked the practice a lot too, it was more high paced and wasn't boring to watch and I liked that. I also like the intensity of the defensive line coach," he said. "I like that they are less than three hours away and the campus is very clean and nice."
McEowen also holds offers from Penn State, Northwestern, Rutgers and Boston College.
Which schools now fall into McEowen's favorites?
"I would say Boston College, Northwestern, Penn State, Virginia Maryland, Rutgers and North Carolina State."
McEowen plans to visit Boston College, Northwestern and Virginia sometime this spring or summer.
Currently, the defensive tackle is preparing for two upcoming combines including the Nike Camp at Penn State followed by the Elite College Combine in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
"I feel I've gotten faster and stronger," he said. "I'm lifting four days a week and I'm working out with former Penn State running back Aaron Harris who trains with us running on Tuesdays and Thursdays."
Last season McEowen posted 89 tackles, 15 for loss and five sacks as he was named all-area, all-league and second team AAAA all-state by the Pennsylvania Football News.
