McElroy makes first trip

Southlake (Texas) Carroll quarterback Greg McElroy does not have to wait any longer for his first offer.
The Kansas Jayhawks were the first team to offer the 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal caller last week and McElroy took an unofficial visit to Lawrence this weekend to check things out in person.

"It went very well," McElroy said about the trip. "I got to check out their quarterback meetings, tour the campus, and everything. "I really wasn't expecting an offer from them, but it feels good knowing I've got the first one."
McElroy may have only one offer, but he's expecting that total to rise as he steps on the field this fall for the defending state champions.
"Once I got the offer, it feels like so much pressure is lifted off your shoulders because you know there is at least one opportunity to play football," McElroy said. "Once I get a couple starts under my belt, I think more offers will come."
"I'm going to probably hold off on a decision until my football season gets close to being finished unless the right offer comes my way."
Schools that are looking to garner interest from McElroy by fitting the "right" school profile are going to have to have good academics, a winning tradition, and a comfortable atmosphere for the young quarterback.
Overall, he is just looking for a place that he wants to call home for the next four years.
"I'm looking for all of that, but also any school that shows me interest is going to be up there on my list," McElroy said. "Right now I'd say that Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Stanford are the favorites."
From the Pacific to the Atlantic, it appears that numerous schools are getting involved with McElroy and his recruitment. However, McElroy isn't quite sure whether or not to leave the south.
"Obviously my family is really important to me so I'd like to stay close to home," he said. "My dad works for the L.A. Dodgers and travels, so the west coast looks pretty good too."
McElroy is also hearing from Colorado, Tennessee, and SMU among his other schools.
