McDowell updates spring visit plans

Spring break has begun at Detroit Loyola High, and that has Rivals100 defensive end Malik McDowell thinking about where he wants to visit for spring practices.
The nation's No. 21 prospect could be on the road as early as Friday.

"I'm thinking about going up to Michigan tomorrow, but that is not set in stone yet," McDowell said. "I have already been to Michigan [for a spring practice]. It is real organized. I had never really seen a college practice, and it was like they moved like a school of fish."
Michigan was also one of McDowell's first offers back in his sophomore year, and the Wolverines continue to hold high interest for the four-star prospect.
"Coach talks to my mom on Facebook all the time. They are trying real hard and send a lot of mail, too."
Additional practice visits are a topic of conversation between McDowell, his family and coaches now, and he is looking to see other schools before the spring is over.
"I want to get out to Ohio State," McDowell said. "I am going to call one of [their coaches] today."
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound McDowell long ago lost track of his total number of scholarship offers, but did not some of the more recent to come through were from USC and Florida State. He plans to make his decision during his senior season, and has not begun to trim his list.
"It is still wide open, but by the end of this summer I am going to have a top 10, top six or something," McDowell said. "I am still enjoying it, but my phone is always getting blown up.
One school McDowell noted has not yet offered is Alabama, but he said they are expected to offer when he connects with their coaching staff later this spring.
